This is a compilation of bird recordings from Northern California. The field recordings were done primarily by Ron LeValley with help from the California Department of Fish and Game, Sean McAllister, Mark Higley and Seth Bunnell. Songs and calls were catalogued by Ron LeValley and David Fix wrote and spoke the narration. These sounds were mostly recorded in Humboldt, Trinity and Siskiyou counties. Most species are represented by their most common calls or songs. In many cases, the recordings include sounds from many individuals, illustrating the variation that one might encounter in the field. We have chosen to use some recordings of marginal quality because of their value in helping to learn voice identification. Species are identified after the song or call is played. The tape is arranged following the American Ornithologists Union checklist.
